Every home is different. Your Sum Insured should be too.
Just as contents policies have always specified a maximum amount of total cover, now house insurance policies do too. This is called the Sum Insured.
It’s very important that you insure your home for an appropriate amount. So here's an independent online tool, the Cordell Calculator, which can help you work out the cost to rebuild your home. The calculation is based on typical rebuild costs for houses with similar materials and features.
Alternatively, a suitably qualified professional can provide you with an estimated rebuild cost. Getting expert advice ensures that all the unique aspects of your home are taken into account. By using either method to update your Sum Insured, you’ll also automatically qualify for an additional benefit – which means your insurance cover goes even further.
- Up to 10% more cover for natural disasters
If your home is damaged or destroyed in a natural disaster and your Sum Insured isn’t enough to pay for the repair or rebuild, with this additional benefit you’ll receive up to 10% extra cover. - And repair or replacement otherwise
If the loss to your home is caused by an event other than a natural disaster, with this benefit you’re covered for the costs to repair or replace your home even if the cost exceeds the Sum Insured.
It is important to note that limits, excesses, terms, conditions and exclusions apply to the policies referred to. Please refer to the policy wording for details of cover. The provision of cover is subject to the underwriting criteria that apply at the time.
